This little tutorial will walk you through getting a FTP client,
how to download from our server, and how to upload
to our server.
If you have a Macintosh, check to see if you already have
Fetch or Anarchie on your computer. Go to the File menu and
click "Find". Type in Fetch and search. Repeat for
Anarchy if Fetch wasn't found. If you have one of these FTP programs,
skip down to "Once you have downloaded...."
If you do not have either of those programs, you will need to download
one. You can get Fetch,
or Anarchie
by clicking on one of these links.
After it's done downloading, install the program. Follow the installation
instructions, and once you're done, open the FTP program. Now you
can skip down to "Once you have downloaded...."
If you have a Windows type operating system, check to see
if you have CuteFTP or WS FTP installed. Go to the Start menu
and click "Find" then "Files or Folders".
Type in CuteFTP and search. Repeat for WS FTP if nothing was found.
If you have one of these FTP programs, skip down to "Once
you have downloaded...."
If you do not have either of those programs, you will need to download
one. You can get CuteFTP,
or WS
FTP by clicking on one of these links.
After it's done downloading, install the program. Follow the installation
instructions, and once you're done, open the FTP program. Now you
can skip down to "Once you have downloaded...."
Once you have them downloaded and installed a FTP program,
you must connect to our server. Each program is different, but all
you need to do is find how to make a connection. You can find and
read the help on the FTP program you are using, or you can simply
explore the available menus until you find the right option. Once
you get the connection window or dialog, under the "server to
connect to", put "dougs.dynodns.net" (or if that doesn't
work, try "24.15.212.140"). Under username, put the
username you were given. Under password, put in your password.
Click OK (or Connect). If everything goes right, you
should log into our server.
How to Get and Put files on our server: After you have used
your FTP program to connect to our server, you have two main options.
You can GET files, or PUT files.
To Get files from our server, you double click the file in
the FTP window, or (in most FTP programs) you can drag the file from
the window onto your desktop (or elsewhere).
To Put files, you can use the "Put File or Files"
option under one of the menus, or (in most FTP programs) you can drag
the file onto the FTP window.
